In June 17th, the study ‘Low Carbon Growth in Brazil' was launched in Brasilia. The study was sponsored by the World Bank and ICONE lead the referring analyses to land use, work in which was involved since 2007.
The Institute analyzed the land use referring to planted area, offers and planted demand for agricultural, cattle activities and forests, for scenes of reference and low carbon. In reference scene, the expansion of the farming and forest sector was projected without restriction of land availability. In low carbon scene two barriers had been imposed: here, all the additional demand for land (for commercial agriculture, forests and I restore forest) would have to occur without advance of the border; the demand for meat and milk would not have to decrease because lesser emission of greenhouse gases would generate loss of well-being for the consumer.
