Summary

The national project was carried out by ICONE, together with its sponsoring associations. The national activities include organizing seminars and workshops on topics relating to international trade, publication of material on trade and negotiations, capacity-building of researchers on topics related to trade, financing specific studies, hiring researchers, and travel to support the Brazilian government in international negotiations.

The regional program is coordinated by ICONE, which together with the other institutions in MERCOSUL: Fundación INAI (Argentina), Programa de Inserción Agrícola (Uruguai) and CAPECO (Paraguai) ICONE also carried out activities like: publication of newsletters, organize seminars, carry out studies of common interest, carry out the exchange of researchers and develop common methodologies.

The project was structured in three large groups of activities:
a) generate private sector interest in international negotiations;
b) strengthen analytical capacity, coordination mechanisms and consultation;
c) support in the formulation of negotiating positions.

The project seeks to facilitate the economic integration of the MERCOSUL countries with the rest of the world. This is done through the strengthening of the agricultural private sector in its capacity of the leading of trade agreement negotiations by their respective negotiators, and by providing information and tools that facilitate these tasks.
