Elaboration of the study, part of the book published as “Sugarcane Ethanol: Contributions to climate Change Mitigation and The Environment”, found that almost all of the sugarcane expansion took place in areas that were already in use, that is, with minimal impact on native vegetation. This study was carried out using the field work of the environmental licensing processes of the ethanol mills, using secondary data, satellite images, and applying ICONE’s forecasting model.
